Like a light, it shines into the dark side of our lives.
Thank you for visiting the Catholic Odawara Church homepage.
Have you ever been to our church?
In fact, Catholic Odawara Church does not directly face the main road and many people pass by unaware that it is there. Even people who have come to visit sometimes walk on past the church without realizing. If you turn off the main street and go down a narrow lane, you will see the attractive white chapel and belfry. The building of Catholic Odawara Church has been standing for worship for over eighty years, although the history of the Catholic church in Odawara dates back more than a hundred and thirty years.
Many people will be familiar with the French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s most famous work “The Little Prince”. “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.” We are constantly assaulted by visual and auditory information and in our attempts to “live well”, we become absorbed in this information. In order to “live for now” we hesitate to stand still and we dare not take time to look around us. Even though we desire to search for something important, we cannot see what we are searching for.
So, in the midst of our busy lives, let’s remember to pause, take our eyes off the things that are always in our sight and lift up our faces to take in other things and different views. In this way we may find something new and become aware of new things.
Our Lord Jesus Christ says,
“Come to me,
all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.” (Matthew. 11:28)
And, if our real lives seem like they are hidden away down some unremarkable narrow lane off the main street, our Lord knows that we carry invisible burdens in the unseen areas of our lives. He lightens the load for us.
Come and feel the warmth of “the light of the world”: our Lord Jesus Christ.
We look forward to welcoming you to our church soon. ( Parish priest )
